Junk Food Ad Restrictions
London
Since 2019, Transport for London (TfL) has banned advertising of high-fat, sugar, and salt foods across its public transport network, with an aim to reduce child obesity. Only healthy food promotions are allowed. With 30 million daily journeys, TfL’s advertising space is a powerful messaging platform. A 2022 study by the University of Sheffield and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found the policy is expected to save the National Health Service over £200 million.
