The pressure to succeed is something that students all over the school struggle with. Since the second semester is here, teachers have been warning students about the upcoming due dates, and tests that they would have to prepare for. As the rush continues, so does the stressful damage of the students’ mental health decreases. So, how are students holding up?
In emotional distress, not only are the academic work affected, but the students’ performance as well is showing negative results.
“When I am going through situations either at home or school it pressures me, I suddenly get nervous and anxious making my work become not as what I would want it to be, later on affecting my grade,” sophomore Isabella Colorado said.
New freshmen have especially been overwhelmed with work as they are not used to the heavy and changed workload.
“The work is easy, the tests are alright, but the amount of it is insane. The switch between junior high and high school shocked me, but I didn't know I would have to write a three page essay and then have 3 following tests the next day. I guess this will be life for the next 3 three years,” freshman Darrius Barron said.
Students have expressed that numerous teachers have been stressing them about assignments in a negative way. Now, people are stressed, discouraged, and some might say academically depressed.
“My teachers are rubbing me off the wrong way, and it’s becoming a problem. I understand that I have a test next week and I need to study for it, but yelling at the class for it isn’t going to help. I am in an AP class, I know how to prioritize my time, and teachers are making my life more miserable by the second,” sophomore Fayth Hatcher said.
Some teachers understand that a large number of students can feel stressed and down at times, but it is also their job to make sure students get the education they need and enough reminders for students to stay productive.
“As a teacher, I want the absolute best for my students to succeed. Yes, I could and would again be strict within my classroom because sometimes these students need an extra push. I care and love my students deeply, the last thing I would want upon them is failure. I hope all students know that their teachers care more about their well-being than academics itself. Us teachers go way above and beyond for these kids,” anonymous teacher said.
