On the evening of January 30th, Culinary will be hosting a patriotism banquet named “Heroes Table” to honor, recognize, celebrate, and provide hospitality to veterans and first responders within the school and the community.
These aspirational members of SkillsUSA have a desire to show their appreciation and regard for the sacrifices these heroes have made.
“Heroes Table aims to celebrate teacher veterans and first responders so they understand that their sacrifices are recognized by young leaders,” senior Isabella Quiroz said.
In addition to their thoughtfulness and patriotism, this event also brings communities together and brings new opportunities for students.
In preparation for this event, Conroe Culinary chapter members were asked to participate in the service aspect and hospitality of their highly valued guests. Roles were assigned based on personal strengths and aspirations, an intentional move, purposely giving guests an elegant dining experience while simultaneously encouraging students to take on leadership positions and growing their leadership abilities.
“Part of our goals when planning events is to involve as many chapter members as possible to provide our members with a chance for leadership development.”
The night doesn’t end at fine dining— Superintendent and veteran, David Vinson, will be speaking about his former experiences and the SkillsUSA’s National theme of “Champion your Future,” focusing on students setting themselves up for success.
Our own CTE Director will be speaking about opportunities through SkillsUSA and their appreciation for the heroes of America. The Folds of Honor representative, Senior Director of Impact, Diane Nemecek, will also be speaking about Folds of Honor, the organization designed to bring educational scholarships to the families of veterans and first responders.
“After attending Heroes Table we would like guests to understand the challenges many veterans and first responders experience, as well comprehend how SkillsUSA changes its young members into excellent leaders that appreciate patriotism. As for our Heroes we would like them to feel like their sacrifices are recognized among student leaders and connect them to resources like Folds of Honor,” Quiroz said.
