What is the MCC Selkirk?

The MCC Selkirk is a non-profit Christian thrift & furniture store located on 511 Selkirk Avenue. MCC Thrift supports the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches which shares God's love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice.

MCC Thrift Store Experience

My first day at the MCC was really intriguing. I had the opportunity to explore the store, learn how to sort items in the basement and just have a better understanding of how things work in the store. One of the managers, who is also my mentor, guided and taught me how to properly and neatly store shoes and boots into boxes. He is a bit pushy but I believe it means that he is driven by success and just wants me to succeed in what I do.

What did I learn?

I haven’t learned much yet considering I have only been present at the MCC for a day however a skill that I picked up on is sorting out items properly and neatly.

What did I learn?

There wasn't much of a difference when I visited the MCC a second time. I was successful in achieving my objectives and growing in experience, but what new lessons did I actually pick up this year?

If I'm being absolutely honest, not much. My retail understanding, social skills, and independence in completing things effectively have also improved, but nothing new was discovered. It wasn't even connected to my computer science credit because there were zero to none computers. But even all that, I still had fun. Although the occasionally bad apple appeared, it was a laid back experience.
