A Place of Your Own

A Place of Your Own is a collection of site-specific sound art from the students of Professor Assor’s sound art class in the fall of 2020. The backdrop of the global pandemic and widespread social unrest, of course, dramatically changes the way we think about the physical nature of sites. We were tasked with creating a sense of place without access to physical locations; we worked in bedrooms, homes, and dorms to create worldly sound experiences within these confines. These pieces transport you through mental spaces ranging from exploration, to fear, to peace. Traverse through an intimate encounter with racial memory, meditate in a Tokyo train station or on a virtual mountaintop, interview a lamp, eat a binaural breakfast, conduct urban surveillance and encounter a deceptively scary haunted room. We have reimagined the physical site. All of these works can be experienced here, accompanied by a live artist Q&A at 6PM EST on Sunday.
