Hello everyone, welcome to Chinese 4!

Chinese 4 is designed to provide students with opportunities to utilize, extend, and develop their Chinese language skills, in both writing and speaking, under practical topics. Students will be guided and encouraged to complete various real-world conversation tasks during the class and analyze the language knowledge for continued learning in the future. At this level, students will start developing the ability to narrate and express deeper opinions through task-based learning structures. Cultural contrast and comparison are naturally embedded in our class discussions, activities, and tasks.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 • Revisit and enhance four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) learned from previous Chinese studies within the contexts of Transportation, Weather, Dining, Asking Directions, Birthday Party, and Seeing a doctor.

 • Develop and extend four communicative skills in the contexts of Dating/Hanging out with friends, Renting an Apartment, Sports, Travel and At the Airport. 

 • Continue to develop Chinese cultural understanding within the contexts mentioned above.

 • Continue developing instincts of decoding and reading comprehension by familiarizing Chinese characters, etymology
