Hello everyone, welcome to Chinese 2!

Chinese 2 is designed for students of fundamental Chinese language skills to continue developing their communication skills from personal information to the surrounding environment, such as school life. Besides listening and speaking, this course will help students develop Chinese reading and writing skills and Chinese culture awareness, which you will learn from our class discussions and projects. We hope you enjoy learning Chinese and continue developing and practicing it from the classroom to the communities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

• Review of Chinese phonological, writing, and grammar systems

•  Revisit and enhance four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) learned from previous Chinese studies within the contexts of Greetings, Families, Time & Dates, Hobbies, and Visiting Friends.

• Develop and extend four communicative skills in the contexts of Making Appointments, Studying Chinese, School Life, Shopping, and Transportation.

• Continue developing instincts of decoding and reading comprehension by familiarizing Chinese characters with etymology.

• Develop Chinese cultural understanding within the contexts mentioned above.
