Hi I'm Andrea
Thanks for following your curiosity to come and check me out.
My passion is communication and connection - in particular, how we can use what happens in everyday interactions as a source of learning and growth.
Because in those moments where we feel something activated in us, from small niggles to frustration or even disconnection, there is an opportunity to explore what matters beneath the surface.
This can come through simple things like:
Conversations that didn’t sit right,
Other people’s reactions that catch you off guard,
Situations that still carry some charge or ongoing impact.
I've found that life, and interactions within it, can move pretty fast. So when we have the space to slow down to revisit and understand what may have been going on, both for ourselves and in the situation, those everyday moments can become a source of insight.
Insight into what we need, what we value and how we want to show up.
Most of us aren’t taught how to relate to our own inner world - let alone consider other people’s alongside their own. When you consider how multiple realities are involved in even a simple interaction, it’s not surprising there’s so much room for confusion, misunderstandings and pain.
The key I've found to start unlocking this is self-connection; something we all have access to, but can lose touch with.
Learning how to get back in touch with, and develop, that inner guidance within us is what I find so exciting about this work.
This is why I care about sharing how self-connection is a skill.
As a former people pleaser who spent years performing on stage, I found myself performing in my own life and relationships too.
This looked like seeking praise and validation, adapting to what I thought others wanted me to be and minimising my needs (if I even knew what they were...).
I’ve also gone the other way: speaking up in ways that didn’t quite land, or pushing past small niggling doubts to make decisions quickly, only to feel the repercussions later.
All of which gave me plenty of messy material to revisit in my own self-connection journey.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC), developed by psychologist Marshall B. Rosenburg, is what gave me a framework to start making sense of my inner world - and, from there, what was happening in my interactions with others.
I’ve been practising this, alongside Authentic Relating, since 2019.
This has included:
Hosting workshops and one-to-one sessions in the UK, Portugal and Thailand,
Over 300 hours assisting people in learning NVC in international online courses with certified trainers at Connecting2Life,
Five years of solo travel and living overseas, strengthening my self-connection with changing contexts and people,
What’s stood out consistently from my experience is that, wherever I was in the world, or who I worked with, self-connection resonates. As the Center for NVC says:
"We believe that all our actions - anything anyone ever does - are attempts to meet needs.
With this realization in mind, we are able to understand others’ actions, however baffling,
and transform judgment into empathic understanding."
I offer Self-Connection sessions both in person at SOUL Wellness Hub in the Calder Valley and online.
If we were together in person, this is where I’d ask what it’s been like for you to read a bit about me and my work.
If anything here resonates, you can take the next step in developing your self-connection and request sessions here. If you’d like to stay up to date with Self-Connection Is a Skill learnings, you can join my newsletter below.
Wherever you go from here, I wish you well in finding more clarity, ease and connection in your life.
Warmly,
Andrea
