This website is being created for all of Mr. Douglas' 2024-2025 students and families. Parents and caregivers can come here to see updates and easily reference links to helpful information like stores, repairs, and needed materials. There is a wealth of helpful information no more than a click away here, please use it!
Students will primarily use their Google Classrooms, where Mr. Douglas can post information to each school. Instructions can be found on the Sign Up! tab above if this has not already happened. This will also be the place for helpful videos, listening activities, and the occasional History lesson that Mr. Douglas likes to share, because he is just that big of a nerd 😆.
The majority of students who participate in Instrumental Music rent their instrument. This ensures a quality fit as well as making sure that the instrument is in top notch condition to learn on. If you already have a family instrument, please send it in to Mr. Douglas for a quick review. We will want to make sure that it is not in need of any repairs or upkeep that could make learning difficult. Many times all a student needs is a simple repair, box of reeds, or a better case to get them playing on an unused family instrument right away.
Click on each tab above to take you to specific helpful areas. Because of my travel to 5 different CCS buildings, this website, in addition to each schools Google Classroom, is the quickest/easiest way to share important news and provide helpful links and ideas to you at home. Make sure you check "Updates"often and please monitor your students Google Classroom for individual grades, comments, and news important to each individual school.
Material needs for classes can be found in the "Helpful Stuff" tab above. Each student having their own instrument, book, and items like reeds, rosin, and/or oils will greatly help to keep everyone moving in the right direction. Parents, please know that priority number one is teaching your musican how to be responsible with their instrument. Names should ALWAYS be present on a case and book, and every instrument you encounter should be treated gently. Please help me to help your student by seeing that this lesson is reinforced.
Instrumental Music is a voluntary class, but students do earn a grade!
4th Graders may learn to play an Orchestra Instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello or Bass)
5th Graders may continue on in Orchestra or learn a Brass, Woodwind, or Percussion Instrument
(These are CCS rules)
About Mr. Douglas
This will be Mr. Douglas' 26th year teaching Instrumental classes in CCS! Here is a picture from way back in his TBDBITL days many years (and pounds) ago.🤣 Mr. Douglas began his musical career as a not-too-good 5th Grade Trumpet player (but he kept at it)!
Mr. Douglas has an additional degree with a great deal of experience in both Gifted and Special Education teaching and this work is very important to him on a personal level.
Mr. Douglas does his best to make sure that you are having fun while you are learning!
Mr. Douglas graduated from The Ohio State University and marched in the band (TBDBITL) for 4 years. Go Bucks! Mr. Douglas holds a Masters Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, and from Muskingum University here in Ohio where he completed the bulk of his Intervention Specialist ISMM certification. Mr. Douglas worked for many years at CCS separate facility Elementary and High Schools in the District teaching Instrumental Music. Gifted/Sp. Ed. teaching is extremely important to Mr. Douglas on both a personal and professional level and these important ideas, approaches, and experiences are always making their way into the Instrumental classes. Mr. Douglas' favorite subject in school was History, so don't be surprised to learn some neat things along the way.
The most important thing Mr. Douglas would like you to know about him is that he expects his students to be hard-workers, treat others and equipment well, be respectful, and have fun! If you aren't having fun when you come to Instrumental class something is wrong. Learning to play an instrument is hard work, but there are a lot of lessons along the path of becoming a better musician. Learning to play an instrument is a gift that you can share with others for a lifetime and Mr. Douglas would be more than happy to help you get started!
