The wild Mustangs have come back for another trophy!!

“It only took 27 seconds for Simeon Woldeyohannes To break everything wide open” -9 News

The Mustangs had a rough start to the season. Simeon says “We started off with a slow start and had a tough loss over TCA (The Classical Academy), a 4A team.” This didn’t deter the Mustangs from their goal, winning the championship. They were determined to make it to the championship. After hard fought games they reached the championship.

“Going into the game we were all nervous and when we first played in that championship 2 years ago, I could tell all the nerves were flooding through the team. I was also very nervous.” Simeon put away both goals for the Mustangs. “On the first goal I got pretty lucky and the ball bounced right next to me, the second one was an awesome feeling, I have been working on that for my whole life. I just felt like I helped the team out.” Simeon felt that the people who assisted him helped him greatly. “The second one was Jackson Lieberman and the first one was technically me.” After the game the team talked about what they could improve on “If there was something we could improve on it would be passing.”

Coach Bernstein says “Before the game I felt very calm because I felt like we did a lot of work.” But just because the coach wasn’t nervous at kickoff during the game was a different story “They were also shaky and a little nervous. It's you know you're playing in a championship game and it’s definitely like a high stakes type of environment” Coach Bernstein says.

As the game began they were getting pumped up but who was pumping them up? “I think the seniors filled that role.” Coach Bernstein says. Coach and the players weren’t doubting that they would lose but it was a championship game and Peak to Peak had worked hard a they weren’t going let us just win it.“I feel like in every sports environment there’s like a shadow of doubt that creeps in like what if, I do something  or something happens that leads to us not doing well. I think there is a sense that we had a couple guys who like we're a little weary of that doubt, but I think more so we had majority of players who feel confident in their ability execute and so, I feel like it's normal for a players or young people to have a doubt or to have fear or potential of what to go wrong. That’s a very normal thing. I think it is actually important to acknowledge and listen to it and focus on the stuff that you can control like how you play and just focus on the things that you can control.” The first goal came quick at the 27th second of the game. “It was a little bit of relief again like relief is an important one to me like a reassurance that our game plan was working”

All in all, the varsity boys soccer Colorado Academy had a great season. With a massive win over Peak to Peak High School. This win shows you how hard all the athletes in different sports, not just soccer, work to be a champion.
