This project aims to provide a customizable way for music enthusiasts to improve their audio experiences.
One of the major drawbacks of existing audio experiences is the lack of shareable listening opportunities. With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the live music industry, plus the oversaturation of individualized listening products on the market, many music enthusiasts are looking for more apportionable listening experiences.
In general, anyone who engages with audio sources like music, podcasts, radio, and television must find ways to optimize their own listening. When it comes to music enthusiasts, many individuals pursue various customizations to improve their audio experiences, including noise cancellation, app subscriptions, merchandise, and investing in high-end speaker technology. Yet beyond customizations, music enthusiasts generally agree that the true power of music lies in listening together, not alone.
Current solutions include a range of customizations, including song-specific products, dividing speakers, and digital sharing via apps:
Pocket Rockers - A personal stereo from the 1980s aimed at elementary aged children that played from a proprietary mini cassette.
Hitclips - An early 2000s digital audio player that plays one-minute clips from exchangeable cartridges.
Airbuds - An app that fosters community through shared listening history and preferences with friends.
Digital sharing (soundwave code Spotify, SMS link) - The current standard way to share links to music via smartphone.
Air Audio - A portable speaker that can split into 5 parts for surround sound or multi room use. Gets very mixed reviews and is relatively expensive.
Kove Commuter 2 - A portable speaker that can split into two parts. Gets good reviews and is waterproof. Sound quality is subpar.
The reviewed audio systems include early cartridge-based Hit Clips, DIY-focused JUUKE, child-oriented Yoto Player, and figurine-based Tonies. These products typically target young audiences, require technical skills, cost $12-100, and lack portability.
Our NFC vinyl product stands out by targeting adult audiophiles at approximately $5, featuring enhanced portability through a keychain design, and offering superior customization flexibility. It creates community through shared music experiences while eliminating the need for bulky equipment or multiple accessories.
