Thanks to the Collingswood District's investment in Chromebooks, each student has his or her own device in class. With that comes responsibility, and students must use the devices appropriately when instructed. Together, we will work on becoming solid digital citizens.
Students who use devices inappropriately, such as playing games instead of completing class work, will receive consequences outlined on the rules/consequences page. If a student gets to Step 3, he/she will be assigned a Digital Citizenship training session or organizational training session depending on the need. The goal is to help students learn to use computers appropriately to get the most out of their educational opportunities.
In addition, students are expected to charge their Chromebooks at home each night.
Cell phones are part of society and having them is the way of our world. However, cell phone usage can not interfere with the educational process. In fact, according to a recent study cited in Time, schools with cell phone bans experienced increased student achievement, including test scores that were six percent higher. Thanks to the addition of Chromebooks, students do not need to use cell phones to look up information as much as in the past. As a result, students must keep cell phones away either in a book bag, purse, or pocket. Students who have cell phones out and use them without permission during class are subject to an office referral. The steps taken for cell phones in class without permission are:
First offense: Warning and phone held by teacher until the end of class. Students must sign form acknowledging that a warning has been given.
Second and subsequent offenses: Office referral and phone turned over to the office.
