Grades are based on total points earned during the marking period. Generally, class work and homework assignments are worth 10-25 points, quizzes are worth 50 points, and tests (summative assessments) are worth at least 100 points. Please note that the final, published writing tasks count as summative assessments and are worth a minimum of 100 points. If you have any questions, please talk to me or email me at fward@collsk12.org.
Students may redo assignments at any time for better grades. They should review any feedback included with the returned assignment and use that to improve. I teach for mastery of skills and want students to do their best, whether that occurs on attempt one or attempt six. The cut off for redos will typically be two weeks before the end of the marking period for older assignments. Students who wish to redo work must talk with me and may need to complete a form indicating what their plan is to prepare differently, or revise the assignment. For writing tasks, students may be asked to write an explanation of what they did differently, what was changed, and why. The goal is to make sure students reflect upon their previous performance and learn how they can improve at a particular skill.
