BAROQUE: a dramatic and expressive style in the arts that began in 17th century Italy.
CHIAROSCURO: the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting.
EMPIRICISM: an approach to science based on systematic study of all the available evidence.
FORESHORTENING: portray or show (an object or view) as closer than it is or as having less depth or distance, as an effect of perspective or the angle of vision.
FRANCIS BACON: an English philosopher and statesman whose work is seen as developing the scientific method and remained influential through the scientific revolution. He has been called the father of Empiricism.
RATIONALISM: the belief that reason is the main tool for generating knowledge and not on your opinions or perceptions.
