Spitzenberg

Spitzenberg - plotted as a town (but never to become one) in 1910, about 1/4 mile north of Cater Road from the intersection with the Scappoose Vernonia Road.  Prospective buyers were told that if they bought 20 acres or more in the valley (Chapman) they would be given a lot in Spitzenberg to build on.  Portland and Southwestern Railroad  would occasionally provide an engine and coach on weekends to bring people from Portland to a picnic in Chapman and a sales pitch for the real estate. - Lonny Welter Crown Z Trail

Spitzenberg was likely named for the Spitzenberg apple that an early landowner planted in hopes of establishing a successful orchard.
