Employees receive up to 40 hours per year Under CT Paid Sick Leave. These hours will reset at the top of the fiscal year, and no more than 40 hours per fiscal year can be used under this category. The first balance reset since the law’s enactment will occur on July 1, 2025, and in the future will continue to follow the fiscal year. This means that starting this date, staff will have access to a new allocation of up to 40 hours.
A new sick leave sub-category labeled CT Paid Sick Leave has been added to your Red Rover account. Please note that THIS IS NOT ADDITIONAL SICK TIME instead, this is a guarantee of time that you may already be entitled to under your existing leave policies. This change ensures compliance with the law while maintaining alignment with existing district policies.
The first 40 hours of time taken this year will be taken as CT Paid Sick time. If you have not yet taken 40 hours of paid time this year - you have the option to take the remaining time you have in hourly increments. If you have already taken the equivalent of 5 days this year, you may take any additional time allotted by your union contract, following the contract’s regulations.
Any time taken beyond the allocated 40 hours under CT Paid Sick Leave will need to be deducted and recorded in accordance with your respective union contract and/or the accrued leave policies you are entitled to. You can review the details of your contract by visiting your Union's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
