Adapt offers an LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) for both Canvas and Blackboard, which enables instructors to integrate ADAPT assignments into their respective Learning Management Systems (LMS). This LTI also allows for Gradebook passback, which simplifies the process of awarding credit to students who participate in ADAPT assignments.
However, in order to use this functionality, your institution's LMS administrators must first connect the Adapt LTI to your LMS. If you are unsure whether or not this functionality is currently available in your system, please contact your administrators for assistance.
Access the specific course that contains the assignments you want to use in ADAPT.
Go into the settings of that course and browse to the sections area. Here, you will find an access code. Copy this code as you will need to provide it to your students in your Learning Management System (LMS) so that they can access your ADAPT assignments.
In Canvas, create a new assignment and set the assignment type as an external tool.
Browse through the various external tools until you find ADAPT. Select the tool and make sure to check the box so that the tool opens up in a new tab.
In the assignment description area, paste the access code that you copied in step 2. This will enable students to connect to your course in ADAPT.
Set any other assignment settings that you prefer and then hit save.
Click the button to load the external tool in a new tab. This will take you to the ADAPT platform, where it will ask you which of your ADAPT courses you want this assignment to pull from. Select the appropriate course and assignment that you want to use.
Once you have chosen the appropriate course and assignment, click on the "Link Assignment" button.

Go into the settings of that course and browse to the sections area. Here, you will find an access code. Copy this code as you will need to provide it to your students in your Learning Management System (LMS) so that they can access your ADAPT assignments.
Navigate to the course within the Blackboard LMS.
Access course content and then click on "Build Content".
Go down to the "ADAPT" menu item that is listed.
Note: If the "ADAPT" platform is not listed as a choice, contact the LMS administrator to ensure that ADAPT has been added at the admin level to their institution's Blackboard account.
Choose the "ADAPT" menu item.
In the assignment description area, paste the access code that you copied in step 2. This will enable students to connect to your course in ADAPT.
Click on "Submit" once finished.
Click on the assignment, which will open it in a new tab.
Link the Blackboard assignment to an assignment in ADAPT by clicking on the "Link to ADAPT Assignment" button and indicate which ADAPT course and assignment should be linked to.
Once you have chosen the appropriate course and assignment, click on the "Link Assignment" button.
Students will log into their Canvas or Blackboard course as they normally would.
They will then access the Canvas/Blackboard assignment that has been linked to ADAPT.
From here, students should read the instructions that have been provided by the instructor, and they should copy the access code that has been provided.
Students will then click on the button to open the external tool in a new tab.
At this point, if this is the first time that students are accessing the ADAPT platform for this course, it will ask for the access code, a user ID, and time zone.
The student must provide the appropriate access code, and the user ID can be whatever the student wants, though a best practice would be for this to match their user ID in their LMS.
Likewise, the time zone can be selected as appropriate for the learner.
Once this is done, the student can click the button to then access the assignment.
Note: The students will only need to provide the access code to ADAPT once per course.
The ADAPT LTI for Canvas and Blackboard enables student progress on ADAPT assignments to be automatically communicated with the LMS gradebook. The way in which grades are reported depends on the assignment settings that have been set within the LMS. For example, if the assignment created in Canvas is set as "Complete/Incomplete", the progress recorded within ADAPT will simply indicate that status within the LMS. Likewise, if an assignment is set as "Not graded" within the LMS, then the student's performance within ADAPT will not impact their grade in the LMS.
When it comes to the allocation of points, it is generally recommended that the point distribution in ADAPT mimics the distribution used in the LMS. However, if there is a mismatch, the LTI will apply the percentage of correct answers and convert that to apply the same percentage of points within the LMS. It's also important to note that if a student is allowed to do an assessment multiple times, the highest score amongst those attempts will be the one that is kept within the LMS.
