Jumpstart: A Roadmap for Equitable Dual Enrollment Policy and Practice

K-12, Higher Education, and State leaders have the opportunity to re-imagine education, leveraging dual enrollment as a strategy to transform our systems and move us closer to closing racial equity gaps in education. The session will provide an overview of four key dual enrollment policy and practice shift priorities, with recommendations for stakeholders at each level of education to identify disparities, set equity goals, and take actionable steps to prioritize access and success for underrepresented students.

Learn more about the Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award eligibility requirements and scoring rubric. The purpose of this award is “To allow schools to share their exemplary programs and practices which have contributed to their success and to encourage schools to strengthen and expand their dual enrollment offerings especially associated with inclusion of students of color, socially-economically disadvantaged and first in the family to attend college.” Hear from a CDE representative and members of the advisory committee what it takes to earn this award and get tips for applying!

Peer Tutoring Support Course

This workshop will cover the key principles of incorporating a Peer Tutoring support course into the Early College framework. Based on tenants from Link Crew and university tutoring programs, the Early College Peer Tutoring support class ensures that all students have the skills and connections to ask for help. This workshop will cover the kinds of students to recruit for the course, the essentials of training peer tutors, and the key areas to address during tutoring.

Cypress College will share best practices in developing equitable pathways to reaching underrepresented students in higher education. The team will share innovative approaches to recruiting cohorts of students by establishing relationships with students and their families before they begin their high school journey. We will also share our student support infrastructure which has helped our program maintain over a 92% student success rate.


Huntington Beach Union High School District’s Dual Enrollment Journey

We began our dual enrollment partnership with Golden West College (GWC) in 2017, and have since grown to over 30 approved college credit courses and 1,500 enrollments annually. In this session, we will cover topics such as creating the district’s dual enrollment vision, building a stronger college-going culture, selecting appropriate courses, providing relevant professional development for staff, creating buy-in from diverse stakeholder groups, utilizing strategies to navigate the political aspects of dual enrollment, and more.
