Moving Forward with California Educators Together: Learn how to find resources, share resources and collaborate with educators across the state

Have you been looking for ways to find resources, share resources and collaborate with other educators from your school, district, or some of the leaders in education across the state? In this session, we will take a collective tour of the open educational resources housed in the NEW California Educators Together community of practice. Haven’t heard of it? This is the California Department of Education’s new online open resource and instructional materials platform. Come hear about the High-Quality Instructional Material initiative and learn how to join the Dual Enrollment Community Group where California educators can share resources, strategies, and support each other in dual enrollment. Learn more about the lesson plan tool and how to access free resources from a few of our amazing resource providers including the Science Communication Lab, Smithsonian Learning Lab, and the Exploratorium. You can also browse multicultural lessons from providers including the Cult of Pedagogy and Learning for Justice. Find Social and Emotional strategies and resources that address students’ and educators’ social & emotional well-being. You will leave this session equipped to use this exciting new resource to better serve your students and connect with your peers. You will also learn how you can become more involved in sharing your work with others across the state. Don’t Miss Out!

Academic Reentry: An Accelerated Workforce & College Integration Pathway for Adult Learners

During the pandemic, the unemployment rate for those workers with a high school diploma peaked at 17.6% (9.2% above college graduates). How do we create intentional, integrated pathways that align workforce and education? UC Merced Extension, through strategic partnerships, offers credit-bearing courses aligned to the Child Development Associate Teacher Permit that allows for adult learners to enter/reenter the workforce and higher education through an integrated, accelerated pathway for career stability and educational attainment. Furthermore, this model comprehensively supports the needs at the individual student, institutional, and industry levels.

Detained youth in some California counties are accessing higher education through dual enrollment and are earning college degrees. These students are using dual enrollment to piece together historically disjointed educational experiences and are transitioning from detainment to Rising Scholars support programs on community college campuses. The Rising Scholars Network's goal is to pair each of California's 58 counties with a community college partner so detained and supervised youth in all counties have access to supportive college pathways. Come hear how these dual enrollment partnerships work and where the state is headed.

Learn how to create a simple yet comprehensive registration system that successfully helps first generation scholars develop navigational skills in college registration. MCHS guides scholars to successfully register over 1000 college courses per year toward significant college credit, IGETC certification and/or an AA degree. Create a simple system in a complex dual enrollment world! Learn how to leverage your high school and college partnership in registration.





Jumpstart: Using Local Data to Advocate for Expanded Dual Enrollment Access

Recent research from Wheelhouse and ETW shows that K12 school and California Community College districts can do more to enroll students of color in dual enrollment. K-12 and community college district leaders can use local data to identify disparities, set goals, and take steps to make dual enrollment more equitable within their district. The session will provide guidance for using local dual enrollment data to advocate school community members and decision makers for strengthened dual enrollment partnerships.


Using Coherence to Scale Up and Expand Dual Enrollment Opportunities

Learn how East Los Angeles College partnered with LAUSD to elevate and expand Dual Enrollment (DE) offerings for youth of color. Focusing on structures/systems, the institutions designed a plan rooted in Coherence to garner greater support for DE, add DE expectations to administrator professional learning standards, provide professional development on student engagement to DE instructors, and surveyed stakeholders to determine next steps. Despite DE program setbacks experienced during the pandemic; this partnership had positive outcomes.
