College/Career Indicator: Dual Enrollment in California’s K-12 Accountability Model

Room: MR 7 70

Dr. Irit Winston, Consultant, Academic Accountability Unit California Department of Education

Kimberly Mundhenk, Administrator, Academic Accountability Unit, California Department of Education

Brandi Jauregui, Senior Information Systems Analyst, CALPADS/CBEDS/CDS Operations California Department of Education

Dr. April Moore, Assistant Superintendent, Education Services

Roseville Joint Union High School District

School districts serving high school students are assessed based on how “prepared” students are for college and career using the College/Career Indicator (CCI). While the dashboard element of the CCI is paused, College credit-bearing courses continue to be submitted via CALPADS and reported on the “College/Career Measures Only Report.” Participants will hear from CDE administrators how the CCI is evolving and how to submit data via CALPADS to ensure your data is accurately represented. A district leader will share how CA school districts are systematizing the reporting process in collaboration with their partner community colleges and seeing growth in their college course completion data.

College and Career Ready - Blending CTE and Dual Enrollment

Room: RC A

Edwin Vazquez, Lead CTE Counselor

Janet Montes

Arlene Quinonez

This presentation will explore the world of CTE and how it can be blended into dual enrollment programs. Counselors will share on how they blended CTE high school pathways with dual enrollment capstones to create a streamline process for students to earn certificates and degrees. At MCHS we incorporate dual enrollment capstones in the Manufacturing and Product Development and the Information Communications pathways. Teachers use college curriculum in the CTE courses and use it as a vehicle to introduce high school students to college level rigor. This process can also be used to meet "Prepared" status in the California Dashboard, College and Career Indicator. The format focuses on increasing access and equity by allowing students to use their college courses to further enhance their technical skills.

Where are they now? The impacts of dual/concurrent enrollment on students after high school

Room: RC B

Kylie Campbell, Early College Director, Bakersfield College

Naomi Castro, Senior Director, Career Ladders Project

Laurencia Walker, Director, Career Ladders Project

Bakersfield College (BC) and Career Ladders Project (CLP) conducted a research project to investigate the impact of "early college" initiatives on student success after high school. The team will share how they used all the data they could gather on former dual/concurrent enrollment students to take a quantitative look at how student's participation in early college opportunities correlated with their postsecondary progress, and how they designed and utilized a focus group protocol to gather qualitative data from former dual/concurrent enrollment students from the hive mind of dual enrollment educators!

Using Dual Enrollment to Serve Detained Youth

Room: RC C

Kellie Nadler, Rising Scholars Regional Coordinator

Javier Rodriguez, Rising Scholars Regional Coordinator

Chelsea Esquibias, Rising Scholars Regional Coordinator

College leader from a Rising Scholars program

Detained youth in some California counties are accessing higher education through dual enrollment and are earning college degrees. These students are using dual enrollment to piece together historically disjointed educational experiences and are transitioning from detainment to Rising Scholars support programs on community college campuses. The Rising Scholars Network's goal is to pair each of California's 58 counties with a community college partner so detained and supervised youth in all counties have access to supportive college pathways. Come hear how these dual enrollment partnerships work and where the state is headed.
