BELIEF STATEMENT

I believe that all children should love going to school.  Children should be made to feel safe, valued and loved.  They should be given the opportunity to make mistakes, learn from these mistakes, have confidence to take risks, and set attainable goals.  Children should be given respect and give respect to others.  In first grade, we are a family.  We work together as a team and support each other.  I believe that above all, first grade should foster a love of learning in all children.

The Daily Five

HOMEWORK

Homework will be assigned. Please help your child and make sure that they understand the work.  Further information will be sent home regarding any and all homework.

Make sure to send Friday Folders back by the following  Monday with a parent signature.  Also, keep all work that is in them. Please do not send any work back unless recommended by the teacher.

ABSENCES

If a student misses school, they will have one day for every day absent, starting the day after their return, to make up the work.  It is the parents' responsibility to make sure your child understands the material missed.

PLANNERS

Daily planners are expected to be filled out every day by students with the assignments of the day.  Parent initials indicate that homework is finished and checked for completeness.  Parents may access my personal web-page

REPORT CARDS

Report Card Definitions

4 (E) = Excellent:  The student works independently and shows a consistent display of strength in this area.

3 (G) = Good:  The student works independently and is making appropriate gains.

2 (P) = Progressing:  The student is doing what is expected and is making gains but isn't fully independent in this area.

1 (I) = Improvement Needed:  There is a significant discrepancy between the student's work or actions and what is expected.

Report cards are a measure of your child's academic progress throughout the school year.  Each child is graded on individual ability in accordance to state and district standards.  Report cards are meant to be a tool for growth of your child.
