Gifted and Talented
CO Definition
"Gifted and Talented" children mean those persons between the ages of five and twenty-one whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs. Gifted students include students with disabilities (i.e. twice exceptional) and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all socio-economic and ethnic, cultural populations. Gifted students are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior by virtue of any or a combination of these areas of giftedness:
General or specific intellectual ability
Specific academic aptitude (i.e. reading and/or mathematics)
Creative or productive thinking
Leadership abilities
Visual arts, performing arts, musical or psychomotor (athletic) abilities

Meet the needs of individual students by providing a variety of academic, athletic, and artistic course offerings, extensive extra- and co-curricular opportunities, and providing appropriate social and emotional support.
Provide students with a school-wide curriculum that is a blending of advanced content and higher order thinking skills within their areas of strengths and interests
Assist students in becoming self-directed, autonomous learners and capable problem solvers
Assist students in developing a solid awareness of their own talents, building a positive self-concept, and growing in appreciation of their values to self and to others
