Student Services Team

What we do:

As our team name states, school professionals work collaboratively to discuss ways to assist students who have demonstrated a need for additional academic, behavioral, or medical support. Our focus will always be to eliminate barriers to effective learning and student success.

Introducing...

Your Student Services Team!

Shauna Butler, School Counselor

Hello! My name is Shauna Butler and I am the Villa Heights School Counselor! I am excited to get to know each and every student this year as it is my first year as a Villa Heights Viking!

My family and I moved to Charlotte from Virginia Beach, VA in January of 2016, after I completed my Master’s Degree in School Counseling at Norfolk State University.

I joined the amazing Villa Heights staff in August of this year after previously working as a school counselor at Dilworth Elementary School. As the only school counselor, I support all grade levels, K-5. I facilitate MTSS or Multi-Tiered Systems Support, which focuses on supporting students who demonstrate a need for additional behavioral and/ or academic support. Additionally, I serve as our 504 Coordinator, McKinney-Vento back-up liaison, and the VH Crisis Team Lead.

As a school counselor, I advocate for students needs in the academic setting. My role also includes student support in the areas of academics, social/emotional growth and career development. My goal is that every student comes to school each day READY TO LEARN!

LaTonya Burgess, School Social Worker

Hello! My name is LaTonya Burgess and I am the Villa Heights School Social Worker. I am a native of South Carolina. I graduated in 2007 with my Bachelor of Social Work from Limestone College and then my Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2008.

I am here to support and advocate for our students and families, make referrals to community resources, monitoring attendance to make sure students are able to come to school regularly, and helping students that may not have a stable place to live. I am a firm believer that “It takes a village” to raise children and I am proud to be apart of shaping our future.
