Meet Mrs. Burgess!

LaTonya Burgess, LMSW

I am from a small town in South Carolina located in the Pee Dee area and I moved to Charlotte in 2010. In 2007 I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work from Limestone College and then my Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2008.

I have two children, Carson 10 and Payton 6, a fur baby (Labradoodle) named Cash, and a very supportive and loving husband. We are a competitive family that loves traveling, sports, and spending time together.

As a school social worker my role will usually focus on a student’s life outside of school and on helping deal with the issues outside of school that may hinder or interfere with achievement progress and/or attendance. These needs can include health concerns, financial issues, housing crisis, family trauma, etc. I also work directly with parents and families to help them access community resources.

I'm approaching my 2nd year working with Villa Heights Elementary, however I've served as a school social worker for the last 7 years. Each year brings on excitement and challenges, but through it all I love getting to support and advocate for my students and being a part of their village.
