Transportation Change Procedure
All transportation changes must be in the form of a written note. Changes CANNOT be taken over the phone by the office staff, verbally at lunch, or through email or text. All changes must be requested through a written document.
Birthday Celebrations
You may send in a small treat if you'd like to celebrate your child's birthday at lunch time! Cookies, donuts, or cupcakes are all great! It is helpful if you email the teacher to notify her beforehand in case any other students in the class have dietary restrictions. Often their parents may send in a treat they can safely have to join in in the celebration!

This will enable you to chaperone for field trips and will make the front office check-in much faster for you!
Office Sign-in Procedure
For the safety of our students, ALL visitors MUST sign in through the front office and show their ID. Please make sure that you have signed in at the office, regardless of how quick your visit might be. Completing the CMS volunteer registration can help speed up this process for you! If you are attending school events or parties, please be sure to arrive early enough to allow time for the sign-in process.
Bring Your Own Technology
Each student will be provided with a chromebook to use during the school day. Students will bring these home each day and are responsible for charging them at home each night. Any additional technology that you feel is imperative to your child’s learning, can only be sent to school when a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) form is completed. These can be found on the Selwyn website. Apple Watches, Gizmos, and cell phones are only permitted at school when a BYOT form has been signed, however, they must remain OFF during the school day due to the 3G and 4G internet access and texting capabilities. Technology will not be permitted for personal use (texting, social media, unapproved games, etc.). Teachers will not be able to assist students with their technology and are not liable for any damage or loss that may incur.
Homework
Homework will be assigned weekly in math and students are expected to read 30 minutes per night for ELA either independently or with someone else. Any literacy homework that involves reading, such as a reading passage with questions, can count towards the nightly reading time if you'd like.
Behavior Management
We will be using Class Dojo this year to track each student's behavior. Students, and parents will all be able to see how many points have been earned or deducted through the Class Dojo app. Students may earn credits for positive behaviors shown throughout the school day. A student may earn credits by showing acts of kindness, following directions, helping others, and being an outstanding citizen. Students may earn debits for not following directions, being disruptive, not turning in assignments or showing inappropriate behaviors in specials, recess, and the lunchroom.
The class also keeps a Discipline Notebook that follows the class to specials each day. Each special area teacher will mark any areas of concern they have that day. If behavior becomes excessive, the parent will be notified.
Thursday Folders
Your child will be taking home a folder containing classwork, tests, quizzes and communication letters for you each week on Thursday. Please look through your child’s work, sign the report attached to the folder, and have your child bring the folder back to school on Friday. Students who score below an 80% on a "Perform" (formal) assessment will retake the assessment to potentially earn a higher grade. All students are eligible to complete a retake on "Perform" assessments.
