Welcome to the fabulous fourth grade! I am very excited to to be your teacher this year. Fourth grade is your year to shine, learn, grow, be challenged and make awesome new friends. We have been given a great opportunity to show our talents, be creative and rise up to meet the challenges ahead of us. What can you do as a fourth grader? I challenge you to focus on your school work and always put your best foot forward. Learn something new everyday. My expectations for each of you are high and I will be there to guide you along the way. I expect you to be respectful to others and yourself, work hard daily and have fun! We are going to have a fantastic year and I can hardly wait to get started!
I grew up in snowy Erie, Pennsylvania—where we measure snow in feet, not inches! I earned my degree in English from Allegheny College, a small liberal arts school where I played on the women’s soccer team and met my husband, Ken. After college, I completed my Master of Teaching at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
My teaching journey began in Wake County, North Carolina, where I taught kindergarten for five years. Over the years, Ken’s career took our family to New Jersey, Switzerland, and eventually Charlotte. Along the way, we raised three wonderful daughters. Addy is a rising 11th grader at Myers Park High School and a competitive cheerleader with Cheer Athletics. Mia is a rising senior at Notre Dame, majoring in accounting. Zoe, also a Notre Dame graduate, is currently a second-year medical student at the Mayo Clinic's Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, MN.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, traveling, walking, spending time with my family, and playing with our goofy dog, Izzy. I also love a good cup of coffee!
Selwyn Elementary holds a special place in my heart—my own children are proud Selwyn alumni. I joined the 4th grade team as a long-term substitute in March 2020 (just four days before schools closed for COVID!), and I never looked back. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Selwyn family and am excited to welcome your child into our classroom community.
