University and college courses that you take may be eligible for professional learning credit. Eligible credit can be used towards your NC Educator's license renewal. The following criteria must be met in order for your coursework to be processed:
The university or college in which you took coursework must be accredited
You must have successfully passed any course you would like processed for renewal credit
You must present an official university or college transcript in order for your request to be processed. Grade reports or unofficial transcripts are not accepted for processing.
Please note the following in order for your request to be processed expeditiously:
You must do a credit request in MyTalent in order for your university or college coursework to be processed. Detailed directions regarding how to submit a credit request can be accessed HERE. You may upload a copy of an electronic version of your official university or college transcript along with your request. If you have a paper copy, you may send your official transcript to Tracy D. Creech, PhD via CMS courier (#837).
Please do a separate request for each course that you would like processed. Credit requests may be denied if the request contains multiple courses or if you attempt one request for an entire degree program.
Only courses within your current licensure renewal period will be processed.
Courses in which you are currently enrolled or future coursework cannot be processed. Coursework must be complete and grade awarded for university and college course processing.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) allows 1.5 times the credit hour for a university or college course; therefore, it may not be necessary to do a request for all courses in a degree program.
The turn around time for university and college course request processing is usually 7 to 10 business days (during peak times such as late March through June, request processing may take up to 10 to 15 business days).
Please contact Tracy D. Creech, PhD if you need additional information.
