B.A. in Elementary Education, Spanish
Aside from being born in Virginia, I have lived in North Carolina all my life! My hometown is Kernersville, NC (a small town near Greensboro and Winston-Salem). I went to elementary, middle and part of high school in Kernersville until I was accepted to attend a special school in Durham. I was a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) my junior and senior year of high school and it was an incredible life-changing experience. NCSSM was especially unique because it is a residential high school (talk to me if you want more details and stories from that school). I applied to Queens University of Charlotte and the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program offered me a full-tuition scholarship to study education. Although I began my studies to become a high-school Spanish teacher, that soon changed. After doing some volunteering in an elementary school classroom, I soon found a passion in working with younger students. Throughout college I worked closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in the school year and Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) every summer. After graduating, I joined as a full-time teacher at Nations Ford Elementary School and the rest is history!
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving! I have a HUGE family (8 Aunts and Uncles just on my mom's side if that gives you any idea) and I always spend time with them. All of those family members means a lot of food! I love eating and I enjoy spending time with my family members that I haven't seen in months.
If I am playing any sport, I am outside playing tennis. I started playing tennis 7 years ago and it is now my go-to summer activity. I never played on any teams in high school or college, I just found a friend and started playing every week and I've gotten better every year! Now I play weekly with leagues in the USTA. You can do anything you put your mind to!
