“Gifted education is NOT an add-on for 90 minutes a week because gifted learners are gifted all the time.”

Serving AIG & Advanced Learners through the NEAT Framework
AIG services are provided through the implementation of the NEAT Framework. Collaborative planning between AIG Teachers and classroom teachers, inclusive practices, cluster and/or flexible grouping, and consistent implementation of advanced resources are all core components of the AIG NEAT Framework.
AIG Teachers and classroom teachers work together to meet the advanced learning needs of gifted and advanced learners by differentiating within the instructional time (not as an “add-on” of more work for AIG & advanced students). AIG Teachers must collaborate with classroom teachers to determine what differentiated learning experiences will be provided for gifted and advanced learners. This includes participating in collaborative planning sessions and working with groups of teachers or individual teachers to determine the “what.”
Additionally, AIG Teachers must work closely with classroom teachers to determine the “how”- how student needs will be met, whether the instruction will be delivered through the AIG Teacher, the classroom teacher, or a combination of both. Gifted services must be embedded in daily instructional minutes, and not in addition to the instructional day.
