Resources for Educators

Books:

• As always, our library is a resource for you! Books will be on display throughout the month. You are more than welcome to check them out for yourself and/or to use in your classroom.

• Sora: CMS’s collection on Sora is extensive and it’s great for reading books in class so kids can see the pictures on the Promethean.

         2. Search for and select Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as your school

         3. Click sign in using CMS Clever

         4. Login with NC Ed Cloud

    • 40 Black History Books for Kids: We have a lot of these in our library. Even more of them can be found on Sora.

Lesson Plans & Activities

• We Are Teachers: 34 Black History Activities for February and Beyond – lots of fun ideas ranging from simple lessons to more ongoing celebrations of Black history & culture.

• National Geographic Kids: BHM Informational Article with links to other resources on their site.

• PBS Education: Classroom Resources for Black History Month (for a range of grade levels)

• National Education Association (NEA): Black History Month Lesson Plans (some of these are specifically for K-5)

Awareness & Activism for Educators:

• Anti-Racism Daily: This site & their daily email readings are a great resource for staying connected to the anti-racism movement and becoming more aware of the issues our students and families are experiencing. Highly recommended!

• Learning For Justice: These educator resources include online PD, classroom activities and lessons, and more – all surrounding the social justice conversation. You can also subscribe (for free) to their digital magazine.
