Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will receive 32 scholarships for the 2025-2026 award year from the SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarships, valued at $10,000 ($1,250 per semester for 8 consecutive semesters) to be distributed within our school district.
Eligibility Criteria Include:
Must be an SECU member or eligible for membership through a parent/guardian.
Accepted to one of the 16 campuses in the UNC system- a copy of the acceptance letter must be provided by the deadline
A resident of NC and eligible for in-state tuition
Demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvment
2.5 or higher unweighted high school GPA
Must attend one of the 16 UNC system campuses as a full-time student
Students are to complete their application online through DocuSign, and the platform will email them their completed application packet. They should then submit their packet to brianne1.vanlauwe@cms.k12.nc.us as an email attachment by 11:59PM on Monday, March 2; all materials should be included within the same PDF file, not separate files.

The scholarships listed below are highly competitive, merit-based scholarships that provide full funding for four years of college. Please review the information for the scholarships you apply for thoroughly- they have varying requirements as far as GPA, test scores, and other criteria, and have early deadlines for applying both to the university and to the scholarship. While it is understood that students will be stronger in some areas than in others, you are expected to show evidence of meeting all criteria for the scholarship for which you are applying.
Davidson- John Montgomery Belk Scholarship (school nomination- (let Ms. Van Lauwe know you are interested by October 8th) - or selected by Davidson admissions officers when reviewing applications)
Duke/UNC Chapel Hill- Robertson Scholarship (self-nominate)
NC A&T- Cheatham-White Scholarship (self-nominate)
NC Central- Cheatham-White Scholarship (school nomination (let Ms. Van Lauwe know by October 8) or self-nominate)
NC State- NC State- Park Scholarships (self-nominate)
UNC Charlotte- Levine Scholars- can self-nominate or be nominated by the school. No limit on number of nominations. Please submit this nomination form to Ms. Van Lauwe by Tuesday, October 7 if requesting a school nomination.
