Levine MCHS FAQ's
Can I take summer classes with CPCC? You will be able to take CPCC summer courses after your 11th, 12th, and 13th grade years. For summer classes tuition is waived but you would be responsible for paying for student fees and any books and materials required for the classes.
Can I take an online high school summer class? Yes. You will need to have your current school counselor register you for online summer high school courses because your assigned school does not change to Levine until July 1. Note: usually summer high school classes overlap with the first week or two of our semester since we start our school year in early August.
How do I get to school? CMS provides CATS bus passes for students free of charge. You will receive more information about obtaining these shortly before school starts. Please view the CATS bus schedule to see where your stop would be and what time you would arrive and be picked up from campus. You also have the option of driving to campus, having a parent drive you, or arranging to carpool with a classmate. LMCHS is not able to help with arranging carpooling. CMS does not provide bus transportation for middle college high schools.
Can I take classes at other CPCC campuses? Yes, but we ask that you stay on the Levine campus your first semester.
Do I get sent back to my old school if I fail a class? At the end of your junior year, you must have a cumulative CPCC GPA of 2.0 or higher or you will be required to return to your home high school. If you have below a 2.0 after the fall semester, you are allowed to return for the spring semester, and we will meet with you to adjust your schedule to retake courses you didn’t do well in so you can improve your GPA and meet this continuation requirement.
I participate in marching band, a sport, or cheerleading at my home school. How can I continue to do this since 3rd block goes until 4:20? We have several students who participate in these activities at their home school. Please note this on the Google form, along with what months your activity is in session, and we will try our best to schedule your CPCC classes in the mornings and your high school classes 1st and 2nd blocks (ending at 2:45). Most coaches have worked with our students to arrive a few minutes late to practice if they need to take a 2nd block class.
Can I continue taking a high school foreign language class? We don’t offer high school foreign language courses at Levine, but you can take them if they are offered through NCVPS. Reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Van Lauwe, to register for an NCVPS foreign language course.
Can I take my foreign language requirement at CPCC? Yes, CPCC offers French, Spanish, and American Sign Language at the Levine campus and German at the Central Campus. If you haven’t taken any language yet or would like to start over with a new language, you can take the 111 and 112 levels to fulfill the high school foreign language requirement. If you’ve already completed some courses in a language at the high school level and want to continue it at CPCC, you can take a placement test with CPCC to test into a higher level. You would not be awarded college credit for the levels you test out of. To arrange this, you’ll set up a placement test on CPCC’s placement testing website (the testing center is currently closed, so you will need to wait until CPCC reopens for students). After taking the exam, you need to let the department chair for that language know so they can score your exam and enter waivers for you to register in the appropriate course:
Spanish- andreina.riera@cpcc.edu
French- Sylvia.Nikopoulos@cpcc.edu
German- andreina.riera@cpcc.edu
ASL- no placement test offered, must start at 111 level.
I already took precalculus at my high school. Can I take MAT 271 Calculus at CPCC? Maybe! MAT 171 Precalculus Algebra and MAT 172 Precalculus Trigonometry are prerequisites for MAT 271, but there are ways to get these waived:
-Earn a final grade of "C" or higher in high school precalculus AND a score of 27 or higher on the math part of the ACT or 600 or higher on the math portion of the SAT (please send test scores to Mrs. Van Lauwe to send to CPCC to enter the waiver)
-Take the college-level math placement test through CPCC. This is free and you will get your score as soon as you finish. Register to take it here.
You will need to complete one of these options before you will be allowed to register for a higher-level math course.
Can I test into a higher-level computer science course? No, CPCC does not allow you to test out of any computer science courses.
