Student Assistance Program

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is responsible for drug prevention and intervention in all middle and high schools within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The program is staffed by nine SAP counselors who serve students and families with known or possible substance abuse issues, involving alcohol and drugs, including vaping. The counselors also work with students returning from residential treatment for substance abuse, as well as students who are experiencing stress due to the substance abuse of a family member. While students are often referred to SAP by school administration in response to alcohol or drug violations, a student or guardian can also make a voluntary referral based upon concerns in the absence of any rule violations. All services are free and confidential. Please email, text, or call your school's assigned SAP counselor to schedule that appointment at your convenience or discuss any concerns.
