A résumé is a document that sums up your skills, experiences and accomplishments so a potential employer can quickly see whether you are a good fit for a position. Before you start applying for jobs or internships, you'll need to write a résumé
Anyone can write a resume, but it takes real skill to write an effective one. CFNC's Resume Builder is free and helps you organize your activities! You will need to create a FREE account at CFNC.org to create and manage your resume. Sample Resumes available online also!
Arrive Early: Determine directions, office location a few days prior
Posture and Space Usage: Sitting up tall and good posture shows possible employers you are confident and secure in your abilities
Hand Shake: A confident, comfortable person uses the hand shake as a positive nonverbal interaction. A handshake that is too limp signals low confidence where an excessive strong hand shake may come across aggressive or "theatrical"
Clothing and Accessories: A professional job candidate needs to dress professionally. A portfolio, nice pen, nice purse/bag and shined shoes present a solid appearance. Dirty fingernails or scuffed shoes may say you are careless, too hurried, or unaware of the impression those traits have on others.
What to bring to an Interview: Portfolio, copy of your resume, notepad, pen
What NOT to bring: Cell phone (or make sure it is OFF), gum, candy, coffee, friends/family members
While you wait: Be courteous to all of the people you talk with while waiting for the interview. How you greet and approach the receptionist will all have an impact.
