The City of Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College have collaborated to offer you a chance to receive 1 free college credit by participating in the Job & Career Readiness Training. In this training you will be prepared for the workplace and given a chance to land a position within the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program(MYEP)! MYEP provides PAID summer internship opportunities and career preparation to Hough High School students.
Eligible Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors may be chosen to participate in a summer internship with an MYEP host employer. The following bullets detail elements of MYEP internships:
Internships are generally six (6) weeks in duration
Students work 20-25 hours per week (150 hours total), at a minimum rate of $13.00 (or more depending on placement) per hour.
Student interns are monitored closely throughout the summer by the MYEP staff and referral partner liaisons.
In some cases, student interns are able to continue work with the host employer through the school year.
The program has worked over the past three decades to prepare Charlotte's youth for future employment. The program leverages relationships with businesses and community stakeholders to provide meaningful, career-oriented internships for participants.
MYEP participants are motivated high school students who are recommended to the program by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Career Development Coordinators (CDCs). ONLY 60-80 students will be accepted to this program.
