PSAT/NMSQT Updates
The final administration date for PSAT/NMSQT for grade 11 students is January 26, 2021. With the Board’s decision to temporarily suspend in-person instruction, we will not be in a position to offer the administration of this exam on that date.
The College board has put in place an option for students to submit an alternate entry application for the National Merit Scholarship Program by April 1, 2021. Students who submit the application by the April deadline, may submit an SAT score from any administration of the SAT between the dates of
August 2020 – June 2021 or select to send their scores to the National Merit Scholarship Program (like they would to a college) during the SAT registration and administration process (IF they participate in the May or June SAT administration dates). The steps that students will need to take can be found on the National Merit website under the Resources tab www.nationalmerit.org.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams are given during the first two full weeks of May (May 3-7 and 10-14, 2020). The schedule along with other resources for Students and Parents can be found here.
We will be administering WEEK ONE (May 3-7) AP Exams at Newsong Church 10308 Bailey Road and WEEK TWO (May 10-14) also at Newsong Church 10308 Bailey Road. Students will need parental permission to drive or carpool offsite. That form will be given out to students the week of March 8 and will be due by April 16. It will be linked here soon!
Registration for AP Testing : Students will register within the first two weeks of school in their AP classes. They will have immediate access to online AP resources. There are no Precoding sessions this year.
The Advanced Placement exams are in May but the planning phase is already underway. Even though CMS pays the exam fee for all students enrolled in the AP courses ($142 for AP Seminar and AP Research exams, $94 for all other exams), students MUST register. Starting in school year 2020-21, you’ll need to join your class section online in order to register for the exam. Your school’s AP coordinator will order your exam materials and collect all fees.
Students in the Hough community who wish to take an AP exam and are not enrolled in the course, are homeschooled, or enrolled in NCVPHS, you are allowed to register for the "AP exam only" option but you MUST pay the exam fee through the online portal on the William A. Hough High School website. The deadline for enrolling and for payment is October 13th. An "exam only" JOIN CODE will be provided to you by Mrs. Mayes. The AP Coordinator/School Testing Coordinator Mrs. Mayes is the only person who can add you to an exam. You MUST have a College Board student account to register for an AP exam. If you feel you qualify for a fee waiver, please follow login to your College Board student account, follow the instructions and complete all necessary forms. Exam fee is $94 per exam and a late fee of $40 will be added after November 13th. Follow this link for more information regarding joining the EXAM ONLY course section and payment information.
The AP Coordinator/ School Testing Coordinator, Denise Mayes can be reached by phone 980-344-0514 or email at deniseb.mayes@cms.k12.nc.us. If in full remote, call 704-450-3914.
There are many policies and restrictions that are placed on AP examinations. Students will receive more information through the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents. However, you can find a wealth of information in the College Board's AP website. Your student MUST have a College Board account in order to receive scores for AP Exams. No score reports are sent to the school. Students SHOULD NOT create multiple accounts. If they have more than one account, this will affect them being able to view scores in July. If your student has more than one account, they should contact College Board and have the accounts merged.
Accommodations are given only to students who have already been approved through the College Board. Accommodations application deadline is January 15.

The State of NC offers a school day administration of the ACT here at Hough to all current 11th graders. This year the ACT will be given on 2/23. ACT score reports will be returned to the school in 3-8 weeks after the test date. Students will be able to access their scores approximately one week after that. No definitive date is available. Keep checking back!
In order to send your State ACT exam score (the one you took here at Hough as a Junior) to a college or university you must do the following: (1) go to the ACT website at act.org and create a student account, (2) CALL ACT and request to have your NC State ACT exam score connected to your account, and (3) do the online request and payment for your score to be sent.
Feb 23rd-25th-
This test is required for all juniors! Similar to EOC/CTE exams, this will be taken online. All students, including those students enrolled in the full remote academy will be required to come on campus to take the ACT.
High Schools: ACT Testing Exception Process
Students scheduled to take the ACT as part of the statewide administration may apply for a test exception if they took the SAT or ACT prior to February 5, 2021 and earned scores that meet college readiness standards. Students who qualify for this exception are not expected to participate in the test administration. However, it is the student's responsibility to notify the school that they do not wish to participate in the test administration and provide the appropriate score reports. The attached document outlines the process in Spring21 ACT exemption form
Student Requests should be submitted no later than February 5, 2021.
