Welcome to 8th Grade Math!

We are going to be learning in a way that may be new to some of us, and sometimes it may seem hard, but remember to have fun and that we will work through this together!

You might be wondering "Who is this crazy lady and why should I trust her as a teacher?" Well, here is a little about me:

My name is Ms. Hughes. In addition to teaching, I have several years of experience tutoring students from 6th grade through college in math and science. I graduated from Azusa Pacific University, where I received my Bachelors’ degree in Chemistry (aka applied mathematics). I then worked for the U.S. Navy doing energetic and explosive research (basically I figured out better ways to blow stuff up and set things on fire while controlling the energy output). Below I listed a few things about me to help you know me better.

• I recently moved here from California.

• I have a cat who thinks she is a human, but I'm a dog person.

• I am interested in a lot of topics and trivia, so I know a little of a lot, and I am always excited to learn more.

I'm all about showing how to make math work for you. We can all be great at math and, whether you realize it yet or not, you are constantly using it in your life. I'm here to guide you to finding your own solutions and build your confidence. We can do this!
