PARENTS & STUDENTS - Please read and understand parking on campus is a privilege, not a right.
Because transportation is provided for all CMS students, student parking is a privilege granted by the school administration. The following acknowledgement serve to document that both parent(s) and student have read, understand and agree to abide by all East Mecklenburg High School and CMS rules and guidelines. Infractions of these rules will result in the loss of parking privileges for the remainder of the school year. Additional consequences may be invoked by an administrator if deemed appropriate.
When any vehicle other than the one listed on the application is driven to school, students must fill out the vehicle change form. Temporary permits will only be issued to students who have an existing parking space and who drive an alternate vehicle on a short-term basis (up to 5 days for maintenance). Vehicles not properly registered or vehicles parked anywhere other than the designated student parking areas will be ticketed ($25.00) for the first two offenses, and booted ($35.00 removal fee) for a third offense. A fourth offense will result in the vehicle being towed at the owner's expense and immediate forfeit of parking privilegees for the remainder of the school year.
*Note - Unfortunately we cannot issue extra passes for multiple cars for one person due to previous issues with students transferring them to others. This causes a security concern as it is imperative for administration to have up-to-date and accurate information on student parking.
Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA for juniors and seniors; minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA for sophomores
Must be a rising senior, junior, or sophomore with a VALID and CURRENT Driver's License; permits are not accepted
No outstanding/unpaid financial obligations to East Meck or CMS
Policy Overview
Vehicles not properly registered or that are parked in any location other than the designated student parking area will be subject to being booted. Once the car is booted, the $35.00 fine must be paid before the boot will be removed. If a student drives a car other than the car they have registered with us, they are required to obtain a temporary parking permit to place on the vehicle by the end of that school day (2:15pm).
Additional Guidelines
• Leaving campus or visiting your car (during school hours) without proper authorization may result in loss of parking privileges.
• Student Code of Conduct infractions may result in the loss of parking privileges.
• Student Code of Conduct infractions by passengers may result in the loss of their and your parking privileges (You are responsible for the conduct of your passengers once they are in your vehicle).
• Juniors and seniors falling below the mandated cumulative weighted GPA minimum of 2.0 will forfeit their parking privileges. Sophomores are required to maintain a cumulative weighted GPA minimum of 3.0.
• Early release, work release, athletics and other curricular activities will not have a bearing on whether or not a student receives a parking spot (does not qualify as a hardship request).
• Driving to school is a privilege, inherent in that privilege is the responsibility to arrive at school on time and attend classes regularly. Students consistently tardy in the mornings will be subject to lose this privilege and you will lose your parking privileges if you are absent ten (10) or more times from a class without approved documentation for those absences. You have three days upon returning to school to submit documentation to be excused for absences. Attendance will be reviewed at the end of every quarter by administration, and parking passes will be renewed or revoked at the end of first semester.
• Students parking in the teacher’s parking lot or the administration reserved parking/visitors parking lot will receive a $25 fine for their first and second offense, $35 booting fine on their third offense, and will be towed at owner's expense with immediate forfeit of their parking pass after a fourth offense.
• Reckless/unsafe driving, as well as the playing of loud or inappropriate music and non-compliance of an adult directive while on campus, may result in the immediate loss of parking privileges.
• Vehicles with outstanding tickets or other financial obligations will not be allowed to register until all financial obligations have been settled.
• Vehicles of students who have lost their driving privileges but choose to still park on campus will be booted or towed at the owner/s expense.
Obtaining Your Parking Permit
Applications must have been submitted prior to payment and retrieval of the pass. You must have your parking permit displayed your car to be able to park on campus. Cars without stickers attempting to enter the lot will be turned away. Note: An adult may purchase and receive your parking permit for you on your assigned day if they bring a copy of the student’s NC Driver’s License, current proof of insurance and its current registration.
Placement and Display of Parking Passes
Parking spots will be assigned. Parking passes need to be displayed on the dashboard or hanging on the rearview mirror so we are able to check and confirm correct cars are in the proper spots.
Transfer of Passes
Parking passes are non-transferable and may not be given or sold to any other individual. No student is allowed to purchase a permit for another student or allow another student to use his/her parking permit under any circumstance; if so, disciplinary action and loss of parking privileges will result. If a student obtains a parking permit in any manner other than through the correct application process, the parking pass will be revoked for all parties involved for the remainder of the school year.
Approved Student Parking Locations
Students will be assigned a numbered parking space for the entire school year. You are only authorized to park in that assigned space or risks of being ticketed, booted, or lose your parking privileges.
