I have over 20 years of practical experience in the criminal justice industry to include: Corrections, Military Policing, Force and Executive Protection, Law Enforcement, Investigations, EST/SWAT Operations, Specific Skills Instruction, and Criminal Justice Education.
During my service in the US Air Force immediately following the events of 9/11, I earned the following commendations: Outstanding Unit with Valor, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, Short Tour Service Medal (Kyrgyzstan- 2002/2003), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Marksmanship Expert Ribbon (rifle and pistol), and the AF Longevity Ribbon. I was also recognized by the 28th Security Forces Squadron as a 2-time Airman of the Quarter and a 4-time “Top Cop” nominee.
I hold the academic degrees of: an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in HR management from Saint Leo University, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with a focus in Forensic Sciences from Saint Leo University, and a PhD in Criminal Justice with a focus in Behavioral Sciences from Nova Southeastern University.
I have spent the past 12 years in education - 3.5 years as a program chair at a for-profit/career based college, sat as a guest lecturer at Gaston Community College, as well as serving as a visiting professor of Criminal Justice and Victimology at Belmont Abbey College where I still teach in the evenings. Additionally, I had the opportunity to serve as an Operating Director for an alternative/boot-camp educational program for at-risk, 16-18 year old youth.
I live in Mint Hill, NC with my wife Jenn who has been a 3rd grade teacher at Bain Elementary School for 15 years and my son Drew who was just born July 7th, 2018.
