Our first district-wide IB information night on November 17, 2022, featured a presentation from the IBO's Marie Vivas on college options in the U.S. and abroad, along with some input from CMS IB alums about the value of IB. The presentation took place in the auditorium at West Charlotte High School, and we had a great turnout!
Below you will find links to the presentation slides and a recording of the Zoom part of the event. (We had a few alumni in person and were not able to capture their contributions.)
The IB Diploma Program (IB DP) serves students in grades 11 and 12.
All DP courses have curricula determined by IB. DP courses meet NC graduation requirements. Most courses are taught over two years.
Unique features of the DP:
Students take 7 IB courses:
English Literature or Language & Literature
Language Acquisition (world language levels 4/5)
History of the Americas
Science
Mathematics
a 6th subject (could be second science, arts, or social studies course)
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
DP courses are assessed via internal assessments (scored by teachers) and written examinations taken in May of the second year of the course.
Students who score well on IB exams may earn college credit, depending on the college, course, score, and student major.
Students complete service hours (Creativity, Activity, Service) and an argumentative research paper (the Extended Essay).
