Design Thinking is a creative problem solving approach, mainly used for human centered design. This approach can radically transform the way products, services, processes and even strategy can be developed. This methodology has been championed by the Stanford d.School, and is used effectively in major technology and design firms. This process has been used to cut down product development time from months to just days! The Design Thinking framework has 5 main phases - Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test.
The workshop was conducted by Asher John Satya Student of Mechanical Engineering studying in final semester, who has undergone the training at Stanford d.School. The workshops conducted helps the participants through all these phases in rapid, hands on and thoroughly enjoyable approach. The duration was for 60 minutes. It helped in incorporate a variety of activities from simple quick activities called ‘Stokes’ as well as Interviewing, Brainstorming, Rapid prototyping and testing. Students were soon able to realize the immense value it brings. To be less skeptical, to look at problems as opportunities to innovate and most importantly to make an attempt to create something, whether as a project or otherwise.
The participants were enthusiastic feedback received during the activities were exceptional. Common feedback includes participants mentioning that they loved the new way of learning, learning how to collaborate as a team, to think outside the box and there is a noticeable growth in their interest to take on projects and also change their approach any project.
