Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Friday reiterated India's commitment towards advancing the goals of gender equality and empowerment of all women to ensure that men and women are accorded equal treatment and enjoy the same opportunities everywhere. The Union Minister also remarked that the government has prioritised gender targets within the Indian skill programme and in initiatives for promoting women's entrepreneurship and encouraging access for women to credit without collateral, most notably by providing collateral-free loans of Rs 26 crore to citizens.
She also mentioned that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme has enabled an improving trend in Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) by 16 points has been seen at all India level from 918 to 934, while adding that the Maternal Mortality Ratio of India has reduced from 130 per 100,000 live births in 2014-16 to 113 per 100,000 live births in 2016-18.

More than 32 lakh field functionaries and over 82 lakh beneficiaries participate in the celebration of International Day of Yoga, 2021
A total of 42,28,802 children, 22,72,197 adolescents and 17,37,440 pregnant and lactating women participated in the Yoga modules for their better health and well-being on the occasion of International Yoga Day, 2021 on June 21, 2021. More than 32 lakh field functionaries and over 82 lakh beneficiaries participated in the event.

NCW in collaboration with LBSNAA Launches Training Programme of Protection Officers in addressing Domestic Violence
The National Commission for Women (NCW) kick started a project series, ‘Training Programme of Protection Officers in addressing Domestic Violence’ in collaboration with Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) to address the specific needs of Protection Officers in responding to survivors of domestic violence. The inaugural function was virtually attended by Union Minister for Women and Child Development ,Smt Smriti Zubin Irani, Chairperson NCW, Ms Rekha Sharma, Shri Lok Ranjan, Director, LBSNAA and Chairperson, National Gender & Child Centre and Smt. Disha Pannu. The training aims to focus on the role of different stakeholders/service providers under the Act including police, legal aid services, health system, service providers, shelter services, one stop centers etc.

Ministry of Women and Child Development invites comments/ suggestions on The Trafficking in Persons (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2021
Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited comments/suggestions from all the stakeholders on the draft ‘Trafficking in Persons (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2021’.The objective of the bill is to prevent and counter trafficking in persons, especially women and children, to provide for care, protection, and rehabilitation to the victims, while respecting their rights, and creating a supportive legal, economic and social environment for them and also to ensure prosecution of offenders, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The Bill, once finalized, will be sent to the Cabinet for approval and then for the assent of both the houses of Parliament to become an Act. This Act shall apply to every offence of trafficking in persons with cross-border implications.
