Good Morning Seniors,
The end is almost near! May 14th is the last day for Seniors.
For Seniors who are still applying for college: please send me an email so that I can know to send your transcripts. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT and anticipate to have your transcript sent within 24 hours. You must provide at least 10 business days to have your transcripts sent.
Recommendation letters: Letters from your teachers still require a minimum of 15 business days in advance notice. Please note that recommendation letters are NOT GUARANTEED. Your requested recommender has the right to deny your request which is why you must reach out well before your college deadlines. In addition, please ASK your teachers and your counselor for a recommendation before you place their name down for a college or scholarship. This ensures that if they cannot write you a letter, you have enough time to place someone else's name down in your scholarship or in Naviance.
Senior Survey: Lastly, please complete the survey on the school website that was sent from Ms Cameron (on the 2021 website) informing us of the colleges you have applied to and plan on attending as well as the scholarships you have been awarded. You also have a Naviance survey to complete that has been assigned by Ms. Hackett and Ms. Bumbrey, be sure to complete it by May 1st.

Hello Everyone, welcome back to school! We know that times are tough right now due to the ongoing pandemic and the new school environment, but the class of 2021 is organizing a program that might make things a little easier. We are starting a virtual peer mentoring program. This peer mentoring program is being organized in the hopes to improve students' mental, physical, and emotional health, by giving them someone to open up to and hear from. This program can lead to the building of a better self, getting better grades, and boost confidence. It can also create a more engaged, communicative and resilient student. The peer program also helps mentees become prepared for the real world. . To be a mentor you must fit the following criteria:
2.5 minimum GPA
Must be a junior or senior
Complete an application form (submitted by September 30th)
We are looking for 15-20 mentors for our first group. All accepted mentors will be trained by Ms. Cameron before the start. We will begin reaching out to potential mentors soon via email. After mentors are selected, a form will be sent out for mentee’s to apply. Eligible mentee’s must be in either the 9th or 10th grade. Please email us at co2021@cmitsouth.org for more information.
Mentor Application Form: Application Form - click here
Application due by September 30, 2020.
SSL Hours will be available for mentors.
This Thursday, September 24th at 5:30 PM, we will be holding virtual "Senior Night" to discuss the College and Naviance process.
Many students and parents have had questions and so we hope to assist you with getting on board to applying for colleges, requesting letters of recommendations, and requesting transcripts.
Please join us by clicking this link.
See you then!
Ms. Gabriel
Professional School Counselor
Hello 12th Graders,
Please keep in mind as you are applying for colleges in the fall. When you apply, it is important to understand what Early decision vs. Early action means. If you apply for early decision for a college and are accepted. you MUST attend the college. Read below.
Early decision plans are binding — a student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college. Early action plans are nonbinding — students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1.
Naviance
Log into Naviance today through Clever with your PGCPS login to input the colleges you are applying to. All colleges must be in Naviance at least a month before the deadline so that your teachers and I can submit all your materials (transcripts and recommendation letters) to your colleges. Bragg sheets are due September 30th and are required if you want a recommendation letter.
How to Access your Bragg sheet on Naviance:
Step 1 -Click on the "About Me" tab (upper right hand corner)
Step 2 - Click on "My Surveys"
Step 3- Click "Surveys not started"
Step 4- scroll down to Senior Bragg. Answer al 17 questions and submit
Recommendation letters should only be requested through Naviance. If you have requested it through Common App, please remove the teacher's name from the list and add them to your Naviance (directions below). If a teacher has already submitted a letter through Common App, you will have to delete it and you resubmit it on Naviance. This is extremely important.
For students to request a teacher as their recommender on Naviance, go to the colleges tab, then "Apply for College", Click "Recommendations", then "Add request", choose teacher from their drop down list. Then Click "All future and current colleges" and hit submit.
Scholarships are different. This is only for letters of recommendation for college admissions.
I sent out a transcript review google form through the newsletter last weekend. It is extremely important that the students fill out the form to ensure their transcripts are correct for their college applications.
You must request their transcript from Ms.Laporte (claporte@cmitsouth.org) and then go to the newsletter and fill out the google form if you notice any errors. It must be done throughout this week.
Thank you for your support!
The account representative from Lifetouch shared this information with CMIT South this weekend. I know this is very disappointing, and many of you were looking forward to this exciting part of senior year. As soon as the directive changes, we will set another date for senior portraits.
