We appreciate the feedback from our CMCSS families. Below are questions submitted by families the past few weeks. If you have additional questions please visit our contact page to reach out to the Department of Special Populations.
Q: I am confident that we can help our son learn virtually, but I am concerned about the standards set in his IEP. How would we track the progress? Would we (his parents) be responsible for the goals and maintaining the IEP?
A: If a student with an IEP or 504 plan is enrolled in CMCSS K-12 Virtual, it is the responsibility of CMCSS to ensure the school system meets all requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education (IEP) Act and Section 504. That includes monitoring the progress of meeting the IEP and/or 504 plan goals. For students in the Virtual setting, the Learning Mentor may have a role in providing information toward goals as an additional means of gathering data; however it is not the responsibility of the Learning Mentor to monitor the progress of the IEP goals.
