Dear Parents,
We are so excited to embark on a new path in our continuum of services. CMCSS is committed to building capacity within the district to increase students’ participation in educational programs where they will leave school prepared for life, post-secondary education and careers. In support of building this capacity, the district is committed to ensuring that all students have access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE). CMCSS K-12 Virtual is an option for all students, including those who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or Section 504 Plan, provided that virtual courses are an appropriate instructional delivery method for the individual student.
Prior to enrollment into the CMCSS K-12 Virtual, the student’s IEP or 504 team must consider whether or not an online instructional delivery method is appropriate for the student to receive a FAPE. The student’s IEP or 504 team should also determine appropriate accommodations to meet the student’s needs in the virtual learning environment. For example: if a student previously had preferential seating close to the instructor on his/her IEP, that would not be applicable to online learning, but the team would determine if a different type of accommodation is necessary.
Additionally, as stated in the K12 Virtual Handbook, at any time an IEP or 504 team may convene to determine if the traditional or virtual setting best meets the needs of the student.
Please review the Q & A document and reach out to any of the contacts located on the last page of this site, should you have further questions. We appreciate you all and value the feedback you continue to provide.
With Sincerest Regards,
The Department of Special Populations (IDEA and Section 504)
