At CLV, French lessons in year 7 are all about learning how the language works. We spend a lot of time practising our speaking to make sure that our French accents are the best they can be. We also learn a lot about French culture, find out about important events in the French calendar and understand more about France and other French speaking countries.

In year 7, you will have two French lessons a week (that is two hours) and four lessons every two weeks (that is four hours).
Are there any language clubs I can join?
Absolutely! The languages department at CLV runs a languages club one lunchtime a week. We focus on languages we don’t learn at CLV, like Italian and German!
Do we go on any language trips?
In year 7, there is the opportunity to go on a French cinema day in the Spring term. As you move through the school, however, there are many more language trips available.
Are there opportunities to learn languages other than French and Spanish?
In the CLV languages club, we learn new languages, such as Italian and German.
Will we be using our Chromebooks in our French/Spanish lessons?
Of course! There are loads of fun websites such as languagenut and quizlet that we will be using when you have your Chromebooks. Blooket, Quizlet and Kahoot are always very popular too! In the languages department, we think that Chromebooks are really useful tools that support your learning, so we try to use them as much as possible.
How is French in secondary school different to primary school?
First of all, we do more of it than you did in primary school. Secondly, we don’t only focus on speaking but we also look at how to read and write in French. We find out more about French culture, such as French food, French music, French celebrities, French books - the list is endless! French at CLV gives you the chance to show your linguistic genius and have some fun at the same time!
