In Computing, you will study a wide range of topics. In Year 7 we investigate the following units:-
I'm a Computer Engineer
I'm a Computer Scientist
I'm a Graphic Designer
I'm a Computer Programmer
I'm an 'Internet of Things' Architect
Lessons will tak a variety of different approaches, depending on the topic you are covering. We try to make lessons as engaging as possible, using interactive tools whilst ensuring you still make outstanding progress.
A typical lesson involve new input from your expert teacher, a range of tasks to complete and all work is documented in your online 'Learning Journal' which we use on Google Drive and Google Classroom. Chromebooks will be the most important tool you will utilise in Computing.
Each you will receive 2 lessons of computing per 2-week cycle of our timetable. This may work out as one lesson per week or
Occasionally, you can expect to complete some home learning for Computing. This won't necessarily be every week, though from time to time, we may ask you to complete a task or two outside of lessons time to enhance your learning and help you make further progress.
We complete a post-learning assessment each half term (at the end of a unit) to see what progress you have made over time. You will be fully prepared for this in your lessons by completing all work in your learning journal, through feedback DIRT lessons and through revision lessons we plan and deliver prior to the assessments. These assessments will be used towards your review data which is sent home throughout the year.
If you wish to get ahead a little, why not log on to Scratch and try creating a simple game or quiz. Following some useful youtube tutorials can be helpful! If you're looking for even more of a challenge, try using edublocks to use either block code or click on the code view to try writing your own scripts in Python Programming Language. Again, Youtube is really helpful for this.
