ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS
What Is an AP Exam?
AP stands for Advanced Placement; it is used to designate an approved “college level” course taken in high school. The AP Exam is the test that is given at the end of the course. If you do well on the Exam, it can send a message to colleges that you have a high potential for success at the college level. Depending on the college, you may receive college credit if you pass the Exam with a score of 3, 4, or 5. This can eliminate the need for you to take certain General Education courses and can save you time and money. Check the website www.apstudent.collegeboard.org/ap/creditpolicy to see if the colleges you apply to will accept the AP Exam scores of the AP Courses you are taking.
Who Should Take an AP Course?
Students taking these courses show academic motivation, ability for critical thinking, and an ability to be very organized, as well as being able to balance the many things in a high school student’s life. If you are enrolled in a Clovis North AP Course, then it is expected that you will also take the Exam. (Even if you do not pass the Exam, colleges like to see the fact that you took both the AP Course and the AP Exam).
