Our pathway is designed to give students a competitive edge by ensuring they graduate with industry-recognized training that aligns with state and national standards.
International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Essentials of Firefighting,
8th Edition (Firefighter I & II).
Our current curriculum is the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Essentials of Firefighting, 8th Edition (Firefighter I & II). This curriculum is aligned with our dual enrollment partner, Fresno City College Fire Academy, as well as with local and state fire agencies. It is also an industry-recognized curriculum that follows the standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
The lessons within this curriculum prepare students for entry-level fire academy training and ensure they meet fire industry–aligned credentialing standards.
International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) - Fire & Emergency Services Orientation & Terminology (7th Edition)
One of the key advantages of taking our Fire Technology Pathway is that it meets one of the prerequisites for applying to the Fresno City Fire Academy. The prerequisite course is FIRET 1 – Fire Protection Organization (3 units).
Because our course is offered through dual enrollment, students not only meet this prerequisite but also earn college credit at the same time.
International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) - Hazardous Materials for First Responders (6th Edition)
One of the key advantages of enrolling in our Fire Technology Pathway is that it fulfills an important prerequisite for applying to CAL FIRE.
Students who successfully complete our program earn their Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations certification, which meets the requirements outlined in NFPA 470. This certification is a critical component for those pursuing a career in the fire service and specifically for candidates preparing to apply with CAL FIRE.
All curriculum materials are posted in Google Classroom and are fully digital. This allows students to access assignments remotely if they need to transition to independent study for any unplanned reason.
This setup also supports students with IEPs or 504 plans by providing accessible materials that accommodate different learning styles and needs.
The digital materials include: the course manual, workbook, classroom PowerPoint presentations for lecture notes, instructional videos, quizzes, exams/tests (via Google Forms), and additional supporting resources to help ensure student success.
