The Clovis Unified School District (CUSD) Firefighting Technology 1 and 2 are reserved for Junior and Senior High School students. 11th-grade students will be enrolled in Fire Tech 1, and 12th-grade students will be enrolled in Fire Tech 2. Fire Tech 2 students who take the course for two consecutive years will have an enhanced leadership role within the class and will be expected to assist the instructor with a variety of tasks.

This pathway is intended to prepare students, both mentally and physically, to pursue a career in the Fire Service. The framework is designed around skills students will be required to demonstrate in an actual Firefighter 1 entry-level fire academy.

Passing this course does not automatically grant the student certification; however, it is intended to help prepare the student for the Firefighter 1 certification process. Students should be prepared to participate in rigorous physical activity and expect to be exposed to a variety of physically and emotionally challenging situations. As a critical component of this curriculum, this class will adopt an increased level of classroom structure and individual discipline.
